Lovers of the North Fork rejoice! Greenport-based Sound View Inn has newly-furnished digs, an updated restaurant and wellness activities for you to enjoy
My husband and I bought a home in the North Fork about a year ago, after falling in love with Long Island’s wineries, beaches and stunning natural landscape. While we slowly furnished our home, becoming true locals, we kept a working list comprised of restaurants to eat at, places to check out and wineries to explore.
One of our first places on the list was to the newly-refurbished Sound View Inn. The restaurant the Haylard has romantic, sweeping views of the Sound. It recently snagged a new chef, none other than the former head chef of the North Fork Table and Inn, and was the buzz about town amongst our friends in the area.
As luck would have it, I won Sound View’s Mother’s Day Weekend Giveaway on Instagram that included a weekend stay in a new room, yoga passes to The Giving Room and a halotherapy experience at Salt Energized. My mother and I were extremely impressed with the beautifully laid out, spacious rooms with an outdoor space that overlooked the beach and the pool.
In the evening, we dined at the Haylard, accompanied by my husband and father, where I tasted one of the area’s best New England-style clam chowder. There were other delights on the menu including fish and chips, chicken paillard and a myriad of seasonal dishes with local vegetables and seafood. The sunset from the dining room cannot be beat. I suggest booking a table far in advance or at least grabbing a drink in their bar before dinner to watch the sun go down. After finishing up the meal, head over to its lively karaoke bar within the hotel for a few more drinks and a whole lot of laughs.
